The primary difference between the xR3ci and traditional ellipticals is the comfortable ergonomic seat, which is similar to the recumbent seat found on many exercise bikes. The seat lets you enjoy a comfortable, challenging elliptical-style workout without putting undue stress on your legs or back. However, the seat adjusts differently than recumbent bike seats, with options for changing both the height (15 options) and tilt (5 options) in addition to the horizontal positioning. This helps you find the perfect seated posture for any workout, whether your goal is a tougher challenge or a more comfortable ride.
The xR3ci also differs from recumbent bikes in a few other ways. The trainer's PowerStroke technology, for example, provides optimal extension, power drive, and muscle engagement, including up to 343 percent more glute activity than a standard recumbent bike, according to university studies. At the same time, the trainer's smooth elliptical motion feels more natural than other workouts, so you don't feel as tired even though you're working out harder. Plus, Octane added a couple of extra workout modes to add interest and intensity. The Muscle Endurance mode prompts you to ride in various positions and speeds, with an xRide option that also includes customizable intervals and intensities. With Muscle Endurance, you'll tone your muscles and gain stamina over time. The Leg Press mode, meanwhile, is an aggressive routine that puts you through high-resistance repetitions focused on building power in the glutes and legs.
As a bonus, the xR3ci offers a unique 30:30 interval workout. The mode alternates 30-second sprints with 30-second recovery periods. Later, you can measure your fitness level with the heart rate recovery score and see your fitness improve over time. The machine also lets you choose a more traditional workout, including several customizable "goal" programs with distance or calorie burning targets. You can even just get on the trainer and go, with an auto QuickStart function that immediately launches a workout the second you step on the machine. No buttons to press or programs to select. And you can save your favorite QuickStart routines for later retrieval.
Finally, the xR3ci is a nice choice for parents thanks to its MOM mode. This movement management feature promotes family safety and peace of mind by disabling console buttons and restricting movements, so your little one can't climb on the machine and start fiddling.
